INTERIOR
Level 3 – Install storefront glass and doors at office facing the Lobby. All finishes complete. Door hardware, room signage & directories. Ready for Punch List.

Level 2 - Install the following: storefront glass and doors at office facing the Elevator Lobby, wood & stone wall at the Elevator Lobby, new millwork, re-install existing millwork & counters, door hardware, room signage & directories.  Final coat of paint and rough clean.

Level 1 - Install the following: storefront to east and west exterior entry, metal ceilings, accordion fire rated doors, plumbing finishes, electrical device finishes, restroom tile, ceiling tile in corridor, wood ceiling & walls in Elevator Lobby, restroom accessories, reception desk and millwork, re-install existing millwork & counters, door hardware, room signage & directories.  Final coat of paint and rough clean.

Level 2 & A Mechanical Rooms – Commissioning equipment.

EXTERIOR - WEST

Install the following: storefront to west exterior entry, canopy cladding, Level B window and atrium glazing, new planers, new concrete paving, landscaping. Clean Exterior.

CLOSEOUT & COMMISSIONING

Elevators - Refurbish equipment and install new cab finishes, state inspection.

Electrical, Low Voltage, Lighting and Fire Alarm Systems – startup, testing and inspection.

Plumbing, Medical gas Systems – chlorination, startup, testing and inspection.

HVAC System - startup, testing & balance and inspection.

Fire Sprinkler System - startup, testing and inspection.

Exterior – polish exist stone in place, remove scaffolding for window and brick work, metal canopy framework, glass guardrail at atrium Level 1. East Façade: repair existing stone at east planters, ADA ramp & handrail, replace stone cladding, handrails, refinish cement stucco soffit, repair existing windows, east landscaping. 

Roof- Roofing is complete and weathertight.

A Power Outage has been scheduled for CHS this Saturday, October 24, 2015, from 5 am to 7 pm. Part of the Jules Stein seismic project, the outage is necessary in order to tie the Stein electrical grid to a new panel to provide electrical upgrades to the Jules Stein building.

The locations that will be affected by this outage are:

  • CHS Brain Research Institute – Floors 4 through C-level
  • Doris Stein building
  • Jules Stein building
  • Semel Institute – Floors 4 through C-level including 1 West
  • Biomedical Cyclotron
  • CHS BH area including Health System Medical Records
  • CHS School of Medicine – Floors 4 through B-level (corridors 4, 6, 7 on those floors only)
  • CHS South Tower – Floors 4 through B-level

CHS locations that will NOT be affected by this outage are:

  • School of Public Health
  • School of Dentistry
  • Marion Davies Children's Center
  • Factor building
  • Reed Neurological Research Center
  • 700 Westwood Plaza (LRC)
  • Upper floors of the School of Medicine—floors 5 through 7
  • Upper floors of Semel—floors 5 through 8

During the outage, there will be no access to the following equipment/services in affected locations:

  • Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)
  • Exhaust fans
  • Fume hoods
  • Lighting
  • AC power outlets in offices or laboratory spaces
  • Personal computers, servers or any equipment which requires Normal Power to operate
  • BruinCard readers at designated CHS entrances

The School of Public Health and Tiverton (near Dentistry) entrances will be accessible to BruinCard holders with CHS after-hours access privileges.

BruinCard readers at the following CHS entrances will NOT be operational during the outage: South Plaza, Semel C floor (from Westwood Blvd.) and CHS/BRI.

Elevators and alarm systems will be operational during the outage.

At the end of business on Friday, October 23, 2015, please turn-off any electrical equipment which is not deemed critical to your operation or business mission. For any mission critical applications requiring electrical power during the outage, please contact Facilities Electricians at (310) 794-9751.

ON-GOING ACTIVITIES

JSB Construction Activities: The Contractor plans excavate at the Semel Institute drop-off to access existing underground utilities and install the Fire Main to connect to the Jules Stein building. The activity will start on Saturday, August 29 and the duration is approximately 3.5 weeks.
The work hours will be from 4:00pm – midnight.

This schedule is optimal and could change based any unforeseen conditions.

Potential Impact Area: See attached plan. The Semel Institute (NPI) Drop-Off will be partially blocked for approximately 3.5 weeks. The exterior Stein Stair, connecting the drop-off with Spitzer (CHS) Plaza, will be temporarily closed for approximately 4 hours. The Campus Fire Marshal has approved the attached plan.

Potential Mitigation: PCL will provide flagmen to direct pedestrians, traffic and trucks at the Semel Institute drop-off and will accommodate the constant use of this fire lane for all ambulances, delivery vehicles and pedestrian traffic. We will run barricades around the work and provide trench plate to cover the open holes. Occupants are encouraged to utilize alternate paths of travel.

Mitigation: Noise and dust: Sound and vapor barriers have been installed from floor to overhead slab at level B and A corridor connections to BH and CHS. Openings to BH are covered with plastic sheets (visqueen). All doors at stairs and corridors leading to BH are to remain closed by UCLA users. Fans are located in the construction area to blow air away from occupied areas. Dust control: Contractor performs periodic water spray.

The SOMITS will cut and remove all data cables from Jules Stein Building and patch connections in new locations. We believe that all connects have already been spliced over to new connections. Work will occur in the evening.

  2. Full-time security guard will be stationed at Westwood Blvd. to direct pedestrian and vehicular traffic (9-hour shift).
  3. The general contractor (PCL) will provide a flagman who will direct Jules Stein construction-related deliveries (as needed).
  4. No Parking is allowed along the Wasserman Building north access road and in the Semel Institute drop-off. Parking tickets will be issued.
